EWGA 2010 Events
GOLF EVENTS
Welcome to the EWGA-DC Chapter Golf Events page. From April to October, generally on weekend days, members may choose from a variety of events designed to appeal to the myriad talents, temperaments and time of as many members as possible.
One of the more enticing aspects of these golf outings is that the golf course venue changes for each event. Some events are held in D.C.; some in Maryland; and some in Virginia.
Member-Guest Tournaments
The golf season starts with an opening Kick-Off tournament (April) and is followed by a Mid-Season tournament (July). Our Member-Guests are 4-person scrambles that you may either sign up for individually and be placed on a team, or you may form your own team. Members are encouraged to invite a guest to introduce her to the benefits of EWGA membership. Following golf course play, there is an awards banquet to further the spirit of friendship and recognize the day’s achievements. Member-Guest tournaments are always well attended, generating excitement and enthusiasm with plenty of time for camaraderie, networking and the usual social banter. It’s a great way to make new friends and renew old acquaintances.
9-Hole Events
These events are popular for those golfers who enjoy the game but may not have the time or endurance to play 18 holes. Often, these events are paired with a clinic hosted by a local professional instructor. The clinics focus on one or more aspects of the game and are followed immediately by 9-hole play so that golfers can test their newly improved skills.
18-Hole Events
A considerable number of weekend events are 18-hole stroke play events, in formats referred to as Tournament Tour, a competitive form of play, or as Casual Play, for golfers who love to play but prefer a less competitive environment. Both the Tour and Casual Play are open to every golfer, although Tournament Tour players must have an established handicap and adhere to USGA rules during play. A player handicap for Tournament Tour play can be 40 or lower and players are grouped into foursomes based on handicaps. In Casual Play, golfers generally play by USGA rules but may be grouped in a foursome of the player’s choosing. Also, to maintain pace-of-play, a Casual Play golfer may choose to pick up her ball after a specified number of strokes. Both Tournament Tour and Casual Play are open to every golfer as the golfer chooses.
