SPONSORSHIPS

Become an EWGA Sponsor

The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) is a national organization of women recreational golfers.  Its mission is to provide opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life.  EWGA has been featured in USA Today, Entrepreneur, Executive Female, PGA Magazine, GOLFWEEK and numerous other national and regional publications.

Members of EWGA are a prime market for a variety of business and personal services as well as golf products and services.  Below is a profile of our membership.

  • In their prime earning years and highly educated
  • Employed full time in high-level responsibility positions; over 50% either own their own business or work in senior management, executive or professional positions, or technical professions
  • 38% of members have a personal annual income between $50,000 and $80,000 while 39% earn in excess of $80,000
  • Play an average of 29.9 rounds of golf per year and spend an average of $2,600 per year on golf equipment, instruction, apparel and greens fees.  This is almost four times the average for women golfers in general.

The Washington DC Metro Chapter is the second largest Chapter in EWGA with more than 500 members.  We have over 350 members who participate in weekly leagues across the Washington metro area and we sponsor over 15 weekend golf events each season.  The Chapter also has an active schedule of social and networking events.  These events, plus an extensive communications program that includes regular e-mail blasts to our membership, offer numerous opportunities for sponsors and advertisers to promote their products and services.

VOLUNTEERS

Golf-loving volunteers wanted!

Each year, the Chapter holds social events, conducts leagues, sponsors educational events, publishes Chapter-wide communiqués, hosts a Chapter Championship and organizes numerous golf outing events.  None of these activities would be possible without the talents, energy and selfless commitment of the many member volunteers.  From the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs to those who work behind the scenes, everyone’s goal is to make our Chapter fun for everyone.

To ensure the success of Chapter activities, events and goals, volunteers are needed to help with a wide variety of activities – from stuffing packets, helping to organize social and golf events, and registering players at golf outings to assisting with scoring, spotting at championships, taking pictures and writing articles.  Although volunteers receive no monetary compensation, the friendships you will develop and the time you will spend interacting with other women who enjoy the game of golf are priceless.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering or adding your name to the volunteer pool, contact leadership@ewgadc.org.

Also, when you sign up for events, why not check “Y” when asked if you will volunteer!

HANDICAP INFORMATION

Handicap Service

The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis. A Handicap Index compares a player's scoring ability to the scoring ability of a scratch golfer on a course of standard difficulty. Having a handicap index allows golfers to participate in more events (those that require a handicap index), have a measureable means of tracking improvement, and allows score adjustments to even the playing field when playing with golfers of different skill levels.

Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.
EWGA’s handicap system is powered by GolfNet and called GN21.  It is online and FREE to EWGA members.
To establish a handicap index, you only need to post five 18-hole scores or ten 9-hole scores. Once there are more scores in the system, your handicap index will be based on the 10 best of your most recent 20 rounds. To get started:

  • On the EWGA Member Site click on MEMBER LOGIN at the top of the page
  • Enter your email address and password to login. If this is your first visit to the Members Area, your password will be "Password1" and then you may change it.
  • Click on HANDICAP in the left-hand column and you will be automatically directed to your GN21 account.
  • Begin entering your scores!

DID YOU KNOW…

  1. A GROSS Score is the total number of strokes taken by the golfer in the round.  A NET Score is the adjusted score after subtracting the golfer’s course handicap index.
  2. All golfers who belong to an authorized golf association or golf club can establish a handicap – EWGADC is an authorized golf association.
  3. Any combination of 9-hole and 18-hole scores can be recorded.
  4. You can record information about your golf game so that you can track your progress throughout the golf season (driving distance, number of putts, fairways in regulation and greens in regulation).
  5. The handicap index of other EWGA members is in the Handicap Service for you to look up and review.
  6. The EWGA handicap service has data on any golf course in the GN21 system (address, telephone number, course rating and slope).
  7. The EWGADC Chapter belongs to the Virginia State Golf Association which updates handicap indices on the first and fifteenth of each month, all year long.
  8. The EWGA Washington DC Metro Chapter Handicap Committee members are available to help and answer questions at handicap@ewgadc.org.

If you have not already done so, activate your EWGA Handicap Service today, and start tracking your progress.

TOURNAMENT TOUR

EWGA DC Tournament Tour

The Tournament Tour is a program that provides tournament competition for Chapter members with 18-hole stroke play golf outings at courses around the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. A player must have an established handicap and competes within a flight, which is based on her handicap index. The EWGA recognizes five flight levels. The Tour events are designed to educate EWGA members on how to play in USGA-sanctioned golf tournaments.

Players with an established 18-hole handicap of 40 or less are welcome to participate in Tour Competition. Your EWGA membership allows you access to the Golf Life Management Web site, an official handicap registration site that has handicap information and allows you to post scores to establish a handicap. You may post scores from rounds that you play on golf courses throughout the United States.

Visit http://www.ewga.com/5-Golf_Education/handicap.htm. Another good site to learn about handicaps is http://www.usga.org/playing/handicaps/handicaps.html.

Most of the Chapter weekend events are 18-hole stroke play events and can be played as part of the Tournament Tour or as Casual Play. Both Tour and Casual Play are open to every golfer. The major difference between the two is that Tour plays strictly by USGA rules. All strokes are counted until the ball is in the hole. In Casual Play, you are encouraged to pick up your ball after a specified number of strokes.

Tournament Tour FAQ

Q. How does the Tour work?
A
. The Tour runs in conjunction with our organized golf events. We register and state that we are Tour players on the registration form. We are paired with all the other players (tour and casual) in our events - the difference is that we play by USGA rules. We are planning to have the Tour players flighted by handicap, and play with Casual players in our events (subject to change). We have an overall Tour Captain and she is responsible for maintaining the official overall scoring, tracking handicaps and awarding prizes.

Q. But I’m nervous about “competition” and I have a high handicap, anyway.
A.
Remember, golf has handicaps for a reason! If you have a high handicap and play against a low handicap, you are still “even”. Last year, our Tour players had handicaps that ranged from 13 to 38! Come join us!

Q. Oh, by the rules. Forget it; I don’t know them very well.
A.
The Tour is a great place to learn! You will find that your fellow players are more interested in helping you learn and enjoy the game than disqualify you on a violation. Honest!

Q. What if I am playing on the Tour and I am having a horrible round and I want to just run away and quit?
A.
No worries! You can disqualify yourself from official scoring on that event, keep playing and pick up your ball or drink a beer and sit out a hole if you wish. Just keep playing and enjoy the day.

Q. How do I join?
A. Sign up on our Web site. Your fee goes toward prizes (generally gift certificates) and toward our famous End of Season Two Day Event. Remember, you need an established handicap to join the Tour.

Q. Tell me about the “established handicap” part. How do I obtain and maintain one?
A.
You need a USGA handicap of 40 or lower. As part of your EWGA membership, you have access to the Golf Life Management Web site which has information. Visit: http://www.ewga.com/5-Golf_Education/handicap.htm. Another good site to learn about handicaps is http://www.usga.org/playing/handicaps/handicaps.html.

Q. What is the End of Season Two Day Event? Don’t you have to play a lot of events during the year to qualify for that?
A
. No! That is a rumor that will not die. You can play in the End of Season Two Day Event no matter how often you play other events during the year! Join us for two days of fun followed by good food and prizes.

Q. Do I have to be on the Tour to play in weekend events?
A.
No! You may play in any weekend event as a Casual Player.

Q. Who do I talk to if I have questions?
A.
For Tour questions, contact tour@ewgadc.org.
